Art·Community·Caring
I live in the sun , curated by Liang Haoran, entered the elderly’s house in July 2015, and performed art with the elderly as a neighbor (Liang’s originally lived in the same public housing) Workshops to learn about their lives and ideas through exchange and communication. I live in the sun is a long-term community art project. I hope that in the past few years, art will be used as a means to establish a communication platform between the elderly and different people, affirm the abilities of the elderly, and at the same time arouse the public's attention to the elderly care policy, so that the elderly can proudly stand up Say "I live in the sun".
The project was established in November 2014 and has been more than two years since its establishment. It is planned by students from the art department. The participating students are mainly from the art department and the social work department. Boqun Project fully supports it. We are continuing to conduct workshops, and are planning exhibitions and publications to let more people know about senior housing and their artistic potential.
The housing for the elderly launched by the government allows the elderly to rent units at a low price, taking care of the elderly with little savings. They have the ability to take care of themselves independently, and because they are located in housing estates, they will not be isolated by the community. However, since 2006, the government has officially stopped allocating senior housing to the elderly and converted senior housing into public housing units one by one. As of 2014, there are still more than 900 residents of senior housing. However, the government has not made any commitments on the fate of these residents and the wardens who work in them.
From July 2018 to now, we have conducted a series of workshops with the elderly in Wan Hang House Elderly House, Tai Po.
<Art in Elderly Homes> focuses on elderly care policy and art education for the elderly. We hope to emphasize the importance of housing for the elderly through the project. The housing for the elderly originally took care of the elderly with little savings, allowing them to rent a unit at a low price and take care of themselves without being isolated by the community. However, since 2009, the government has officially stopped allocating senior housing to the elderly and converted senior housing into public housing units one by one. After the government abolished the housing for the elderly, the independent housing for the elderly launched is expensive, and not every elderly person can afford it. We are worried that this group of elders who could take care of themselves will be sent to nursing homes of varying quality, where they will be isolated from society and gradually lose their ability to take care of themselves.
In addition, all the elders we plan to contact have never been exposed to art, so we hope to develop their unique artistic potential through workshops and let the public understand their abilities.
